word success on blackboardThere is one foolproof method to getting fit in 2021: it’s exercise. You need to do a little bit as often as possible. 30 minutes three times a week is better than 2 hours once a fortnight. You know this!

Did you know the 3 ways personal trainers get results?

Using a personal trainer offers 3 times the value of working out by yourself. The reasons are:

  • You will work harder. Your trainer will always push you harder than you push yourself. Having a safe, experienced professional oversee your workout means you’ll get an extra few reps when you need them. You are also protected from injury as your form is corrected by a second set of eyes.

  • External accountability. If you have someone waiting for you, you turn up. No matter how tired or annoyed or over it you might feel, I promise the days you have training will be your most consistent exercise schedule. The most well-intentioned New Year’s fitness plan will mostly look like a downhill slope. Skip the fantasy and book in reality with us!

  • Results. Probably the most motivating force behind personal training is that it gets results. If you begin a workout plan now, even if you start doing zero push-ups you’ll be doing at least 5 by mid-year. Once your energy improves, lifestyle and diet changes become easier to manipulate. What are you waiting for?

Set a goal and see the results for yourself.

The best fitness goals are SMART goals:

  • Specific: what change do you want to see? Increased strength? Endurance? Weight loss? Increased skills in a particular sport?

  • Measurable: Will it look like increased weights on specific exercises? Longer endurance or faster speed on the rowing machine? Cm’s lost around the waist? Let us know so we can track, measure and work with you.

  • Attainable: what is your current fitness benchmark and what are reasonable improvements? Reducing time or increasing weights are reasonable. Making the team for the next Olympics may be a bit ambitious (or maybe not!).

  • Relevant: If you don’t want to lose weight, don’t make it a goal. Your goals are personal however share them with us to make sure we are tailoring your fitness program accordingly.

  • Time-bound: Stay accountable with regular check-in’s. Ideally you have 3, 6 and 12 month fitness goals we can work towards and celebrate when they are achieved.

If you want to see the impressive changes a dedicated fitness regime can yield, let us help you set the benchmark and track your improvements.

Cross training is simply a way to use different modes of exercise to focus on or enhance a particular area. Examples of cross training might be:

  • Weighted leg lifts, flexibility routines and stamina-focused cardio workouts for dancers.

  • Modified squats and lunges to work up to unassisted pistol squats or improve soccer agility.

  • Building shoulder strength through weighted and body weight exercises to reach a pull-up goal or improve your rock-climbing.

  • A focus on leg strength and endurance exercises to prepare for a long hike.

Here are 3 ways cross training can help you reach your fitness goals:

I want to do a triathlon

Many New Year’s Resolutions involve a feat of athletic glory. To reach this glory with a minimum of pain and injury you can partner with a personal trainer to develop areas of weakness and ensure your technique is effective. As well as your face to face session, Recharged personal trainers can set ‘homework’ or challenges to keep you motivated and accountable. There are a number of fun runs throughout the year where you can be part of our crew before you unleash the new, fitter, you.

How do I get better at surfing/ skating/ roller skating?

two skateboards stacked on top of each otherIf you are a passionate surfer/ skater you know the urge to keep improving and trying new moves. A lateral approach to improving is to use cross-training to develop skill-specific muscle groups. This could mean:

  • deep squats with weights for strength,

  • resistance bands for endurance and

  • bosu balls for balance.

Building core stability and overall strength will help you pull off your next ‘shoot the duck’ or ‘smith grind’ even faster.

Can I fix a sore back?

Chronic back pain is familiar to many however long term problems require long term solutions. Improving posture through cross-training has been shown to alleviate chronic pain as well as prevent further issues. Our personal trainers are skilled at identifying ways to work with your condition and adapt workouts to meet your needs. We welcome suggestions from your supporting GP and/ or physiotherapist and our one-on-one sessions can be a cost effective way to support your physiotherapy.

Message us with a short summary of your fitness goals and we will set up a studio tour!

If you aren’t getting targeted ads for resistance bands, you will now. These training bands are stretchy latex or fabric you can use to get targeted, deep muscle workouts. With the correct technique your workouts produce a deep burn and targeted strength workout to condition your body using precise movements.

How do I get started with training bands?

There are lots of videos and websites outlining how to use resistance bands. You can easily patch together some exercises you like and create a total body workout which may or may not suit you. OR you can outsource the expertise and experience to establish a good workout routine to our resistance band star, TC!

TC uses training bands to build strength for her clients since before they were Insta-cool. She is our perky American trainer who distracts you from the burn with her charm while you push out 5 more reps than you knew had. Her expert eye can spot improper posture and correct sloppy technique without throwing you off the last few reps. Start your resistance band workout with the best habits!

Build your technique and tone your training

The motivation to work-out comes naturally to some people but for others, the conditions need to be just right i.e. rare as a blue sky in England. Small group personal training is how many clients stay motivated and accountable. Our small, rigorously cleaned studio is set up to keep you moving from one activity to the next without boring you or exhausting the same muscle group. To access this free motivation, you can bring a friend to our one-on-two or one-on-three personal training sessions and/or join in our group fitness classes. It’s that easy!

I want a tailored program but hate attention: help!

Some clients confess how going to the gym made them feel like they were the new kid at school- everyone was watching AND ignoring them until they wanted to sink into the carpet and disappear. At Recharged Personal Training we run our studio like a big house party (BYO water bottle). Everyone gets introduced and then we are too busy having fun (sweating is fun, right?) to feel shy. Many of our clients are now friends while others come in, work hard, and head off in a haze of smiles and endorphins. You choose how much you want to interact while we pay attention to getting the best performance from your workout.

Can I be flexible with days and times?

Because we run a small studio, we have clients with regular sessions so grabbing your prime day and time can sometimes be tricky. Luckily, we have a team of talented and charismatic trainers who can mix and match sessions to suit your availability. We understand work commitments and illness can happen, however, we’ve found our clients are rarely sick once they train! Talk to us about your situation and we can work out a timetable to suit you.

You don’t wanna know…

If I had a dollar for every client wanting to do the ‘abs workout that gets rid of belly fat’ I could do my job for free. My clients refer to the rippling 6-pack (or 8-pack if you are ambitious) you see on the front of ‘Health’ magazines and in movies. Those lean toned tummies are often accentuated with an aesthetic strategy of dehydration prior to the photo shoot (don’t try it at home). A toned middle section doesn’t exist in isolation. Muscle is what sits under fat and you need to balance diet and exercise to achieve such idealised physiques. Or maybe there is a better way?

The saying “abs are made in the kitchen” also applies to the bottle shop.

Core strength is vital to balance, back strength, mobility and should be a part of your fitness routine. A ripped ab workout refers to an aesthetic ideal which requires low body fat, rigorous exercise and if you are lucky, helpful genetics. We can absolutely help you look fitness model fresh if that is your heart’s desire but let’s take a gentle path instead of going hard and blowing the program in week five. Most get fit quick ‘fitness overhauls’ mean you will need to permanently replace champagne and camembert with creatine and coconut water- is that how you want to live the rest of your life? Booze and belly fat are best mates. As you feel better it gets easier to make better choices for your body.

So thirsty…

Keep track of your body and mind.

No one likes being told what to do- especially you. That’s what happens every time you say to yourself “right, it’s just kale and green smoothies until I get on track and then I’ll focus on my fitness!”. As if! Your workouts need to be fun and motivating to keep you coming back. Once you feel those endorphins rushing it’s easier to make wholefood choices to keep that body buzz going. Get in touch with us to start a new plan and ease into a whole new way to live.

Our workouts are abs-olutely the best!

If you are googling ‘personal trainer prices’, you are ready to get started for as little as $25 a session. At Recharged Personal Training we want everyone to achieve a healthy, active lifestyle. This is why we offer 1:1 $60, 2:1 $70, 3:1 $75 personal training options. You can split the cost of a 45-minute session between one or two family members or friends. This option is ideal to keep you motivated!

Flexible options for any budget.

Exercise is free- all you need is a body and some self-discipline. That said, it is important to have good technique to exercise effectively and avoid injury. By using a personal trainer you ensure your workout is tailored to your mobility and continuously improves as you do. You can then take this improved fitness and expertise to the streets: running, yoga, sport or cycling can all be adjunct activities to your core training regime. You will love how much energy and strength you build from our rigorous cardio and weights balanced programs.

I want more! What else can I do?

For as little as $10 per class (10 session card for $100) you can jump in on boxercise, energise HIIT, vinyasa yoga or mums ‘n’ bubs postnatal workout. Personal training is much more cost-effective than the gym membership you don’t use or the app you never open.

Train in our hygienic, sanitised small studio and feel the improvement!

You need to get moving and quit snoozing. The gym near you who makes that happen is us. We have no judgement, just results. Over 60? Your bone density needs regular weight training to ensure you can enjoy your retirement without pain. Under 60? Your health IS your superannuation. It doesn’t take much to maintain an active lifestyle- you build it in increments. But now is the time to start.

I’m not in the mood

I get it. The problem with listening to your body is it sometimes says weird things like “cheesecake is fine for breakfast” and “I wish I could text the sink for a glass of water, it’s too far”. Alas, these occasional ideas can quickly become a habit and suddenly you are a dehydrated couch fossil eating cheesecake crumbs out of your belly button. Good habits are created the same way as bad habits, through starting a new thing and consistently working at it. Can’t find the motivation to do so? You can literally pay someone to motivate you! It’s called personal training and it’s like magic except evidence-based. We offer a range of personal training options to suit your budget and fitness classes if you want a boost between sessions.

Like an app but IRL

There are lots of great free apps and YouTube workouts which are fantastic. Are you using them? Me neither. I have put them all in a folder so they can stop judging me. Let’s agree that if you haven’t stuck with it through COVID it’s probably not the right fit. Ironically, once you start a regular workout routine you’ll feel much more motivated to work out at home. Let Recharged Training be your real-life workout app and feel the difference. We work with all bodies and all fitness levels, come to the studio and see how easy it is to start.

Small studio personal training turns isolation into motivation

The studio is open from the 16th June!

Here’s the thing, sometimes being responsible and staying home for the short-term can have long-term consequences. Even if you kept up some daily exercise, all of the incidental movement we did every day: walking to the office, into schools, to cafes, shopping; has been cut back for public safety which is great for our immediate health but bad for long term active lifestyle requirements. Don’t worry! Our studio is open to boost you back into strength and conditioning.

Don’t resist resistance training!

If your work pants are too tight or your back hurts from sitting all day, it’s time to hit the weights. Let our professional expertise lead you through a tailored program to get lean muscle and strong posture.

We want you fit and healthy for the winter so book a personal trainer for $60 per week. You can split the session with one or two friends so the price could be as low as $20 a week!

Recharged Personal Training also has fitness classes from $10 a session (with a 10-class pass) if you want to sweat, safely.

Social distancing and strict hygiene

We have stringent COVID19 practices at the gym which is a private studio and rigorously cleaned for each client. We ask you to bring your own towel and water bottle, sanitise your hands on entry and we fastidiously wipe down all equipment between use.

The studio has had a refresh so there has never been a better and safer time to start!

Message us to book a time in the studio from the 16th June!

Feeling chonky from all the snacks? You aren’t alone (even though you are isolated). Lots of us are getting our steps up wandering from the couch to fridge and back again. There is nothing wrong with putting on weight, especially in this unusual time, but maintaining a healthy diet and staying active is a big part of good mental health. Many of the internet memes have highlighted the 1pm ‘work’ drinks and constant snacking but if you aren’t feeling great, maybe it’s time to try some new habits.

Hot drinks before cold brewskies

It’s tempting to start the afternoon drinks earlier and earlier- especially when there is nowhere to drive to and nothing to do. Not only is alcohol full of empty calories but it also slows your metabolism, dehydrates you and reduces your inhibitions which stop you from eating the whole packet of family chips in one sitting. Set some clear limits around what you want to drink and try choosing a green or herbal tea instead. The hot liquid fills you up, the antioxidants are great for you and you can keep a clear head. Also think about why you are wanting that beer or wine- so you need a break? Instead of tuning out with booze, give yourself permission to take a 20minute game/ puzzle/ reading break from your work. Slacking off is still a better choice than blacking out!

Water goals are their own reward

Boredom snacking is a thing but the antidote is simple: water. Dehydration can sometimes feel like hunger but unlike snacks, water won’t weigh you down. Keep a water bottle at hand near your workstation and set a challenge to drink through 2 litres minimum a day. Slow and steady is better than all in one go.

The advantage of lots of water is lots of toilet breaks! Break up your workday to fill your water bottle and use the bathroom- what variety! If you want to jazz up your water, add slices of lime or lemon, cucumber and mint or slices of ginger. Ooooh, what a tasty hydration cocktail!

Raw, Fresh, Crunchy: Snack Substitutes

No one can deny that chips are the most delicious snack, no wonder seagulls will kill for them. Alas, you can have too much of a good thing so it’s time to ditch salty snacks and colourful lollies for the crunch and colour of raw fresh veggies. Our bodies are primed to sugar and fat so they will leave us wanting more until we feel sick. Cut up some cucumber, celery and carrot in a container and put some chopped apple and orange in the fridge and you have your savoury and sweet snacks for the day. It will take a week to adjust your tastebuds but I promise you will feel fresher for it. Be like a productive rabbit and nibble your way through the day!
