One of the most common questions people ask when considering personal training is simple: how often do I actually need to see a personal trainer?

The answer isn’t necessarily five days a week. In fact, for many busy Brisbane professionals, parents and anyone getting back into exercise, the most useful training schedule is one they can realistically maintain.

How often should you train?

There’s no single number that works for everyone.

Your ideal training frequency depends on your goals, current fitness, experience, available time and what you’re doing outside your PT sessions.

For some people, two personal training sessions a week provides the structure and accountability they need. Others may prefer one session with additional exercise on their own.

The important thing is having a realistic plan rather than creating a schedule that looks impressive on paper but falls apart after three weeks.

What if you don’t have much time?

This is where personal training can be particularly useful.

When you’re training alone, a large part of your gym visit can disappear into deciding what exercises to do, setting up equipment or wondering whether you’re doing the right thing.

A structured PT session removes much of that guesswork.

You arrive, train and get on with your day.

That can make a difference for people trying to fit exercise around work, family, school drop-offs, travel and everything else that somehow manages to fill a week.

Quality matters too

More training isn’t automatically better.

A well-structured session that matches your ability and goals is more useful than simply doing more for the sake of doing more.

A good trainer can help you work out what is realistic, adjust your training as you progress and make sure you’re not continually doing the same workout without a clear purpose.
