HIIT workout stands for High Intensity Interval Training. This means bursts of intense activity followed by a short cool down and then repeat. The idea is to quickly find your limit and briefly stay there, then recover and try again. This type of exercise works well for people who are wanting to build endurance, burn calories, increase cardiovascular fitness and add a diverse exercise program to their workouts.
What does a HIIT workout look like?
You can tailor a HIIT workout at home to your personal fitness goals or find a trainer or circuit group who have a workout mapped out for you. The goal in HIIT is to find your limit as quickly as possible and try to stay there or push past it. This might mean punching with dumbbells for 60 seconds until your arms fatigue. It might mean short distance sprints (extra points if it’s up a hill!). You may be doing a few heavy reps on the leg press with a short break, then try again. The activity might change, the intensity remains!
